Where to eat in Winter Park

Winter Park is the most walkable dining district in Central Florida, and the only one where the phrase makes literal sense: Park Avenue runs about nine blocks under live oaks, with Hannibal Square a few streets west and the Rollins College campus at the south end. You can park once and eat for a day.

The trade-off is price and polish. This is old-money Orlando — brick streets, chain-boutique retail, valet at dinner — and the restaurants are priced for it. What keeps the district from feeling like an outdoor mall is a genuinely long-tenured independent scene: a couple of kitchens here have been doing the same thing well for decades, and two of Florida's more significant chefs run rooms within a mile of each other.

Reservations matter here more than anywhere else in the metro, especially Thursday through Saturday.

    1. 01

      The Ravenous Pig

      AmericanWinter Park$$$

The restaurant that changed what Orlando expected from a neighborhood kitchen. Southern-leaning gastropub cooking, a real bar, and a brunch that is still worth the wait.

    2. 02

      Ravenous Pig Brewing

      BrewpubWinter Park$$

The same team's brewery arm — house ales, smoked wings, a dog-friendly patio. The casual version of the above.

    3. 03

      Luma on Park

      AmericanWinter Park$$$$

Park Avenue's fine dining fixture: a floor-to-ceiling wine wall, a tasting menu, and a room built for an occasion.

    4. 04

      Prato

      ItalianWinter Park$$$

Brick-oven pizza and house pasta on the Avenue. The most reliable mid-priced meal in Winter Park, and the patio is the seat to ask for.

    5. 05

      Bulla Gastrobar

      SpanishWinter Park$$$

Spanish tapas and gin tonics, loud in a good way. Order the huevos rotos and share everything.

    6. 06

      Swine & Sons

      DeliWinter Park$$

House-cured meats, a porchetta sandwich people plan their day around, and a provisions counter attached.

    7. 07

      The Glass Knife

      BakeryWinter Park$$

The best pastry counter in the metro, in Winter Park Village rather than on the Avenue. Architecturally precise cakes, a full espresso program, and a line most weekends.

    8. 08

      4 Rivers Smokehouse

      BBQWinter Park$$

The Winter Park original of what became a statewide barbecue institution. Eighteen-hour brisket, burnt ends when they last, banana pudding.

    9. 09

      Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine

      TurkishWinter Park$$

Turkish cooking on the Avenue for two decades — lamb kebabs, hummus, and the puffed lavash that arrives at every table.

    10. 10

      Armando's Cucina Italiana

      ItalianWinter Park$$

The neighborhood Italian standby: veal, linguine, garlic bread, no reinvention.

    11. 11

      Chela Tacos + Tequila

      MexicanWinter Park$$

Al pastor off a trompo and a mezcal list, in a colorful room that skews later than most of the district.

    12. 12

      Hillstone

      AmericanWinter Park$$$

A chain, and included deliberately: the Thai steak salad, the prime rib, and the dark-wood bar make it the most reliably good dinner in Winter Park on a night when you did not plan.

One clarification the directory takes seriously: Winter Park is its own municipality, not an Orlando neighborhood, and Winter Park Village is a different place from the Dr. Phillips area on the other side of the metro. Listings on this site show both the neighborhood and the city so the distinction is never blurred.

For a first visit: Prato for lunch, the Glass Knife in the afternoon, the Ravenous Pig for dinner.
